How to Reach Kathmandu
By Air: The most convenient way to reach Kathmandu is by flight from India. Tribhuvan International Airport is just 6 km from the city center. Direct flights operate regularly from Indian cities such as Delhi and Kolkata, with a flight duration of approximately 1.5 hours.
By Rail: There is a direct train from Jainagar (Bihar) to Janakpur in Nepal, from where you can continue to Kathmandu by road. Alternatively, you can take a train to Gorakhpur or Raxaul, both well-connected to major Indian cities, and then hire a cab or bus to reach Kathmandu.
By Road: Nepal shares six border crossings with India, making road travel an economical and scenic option. For travelers from Delhi or Varanasi, the Sunauli border near Bhairahawa is the most convenient, with daily air-conditioned buses and private cars available. Other popular crossings include the Raxaul border from Patna and Panitanki from West Bengal.
